Emu Oil - Uses & Benefits

Emu oil contains high amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), antioxidants, and compounds. Emu oil is high in omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. These help to reduce inflammation, ease muscular pain, and arthritic joint pain. By nourishing the skin cells they may also help to relieve the signs of wrinkles, scars and blemishes. Vitamin A, an antioxidant and essestial nutriant, is an excellent skin tonic. Research also shows that emu oil may help to increase healthy skin cells reducing the appearance of wrinkles, rejuvenating aging or sun damaged skin.  Emu oil has also been recommended for use in the treatment of skin conditions such as alopecia, rosaceae, hypopigmentation, shingles, and dermatitis.

Many topical creams claim to be effective for dry skin, arthritis, and inflammation, but  most creams and lotions are made up of large particles that cannot penetrate the skin. Emu oil on the other hand is made up of smaller particles, which allows it to carry many healthful compounds to deep layers of the skin.


The most popular benefit of emu oil is as an anti-inflammatory. It may be beneficial in treating conditions like ear inflammation, and inflammarory bowel syndrome. and even reduce bone loss induced by chemotherapy.  It is also popular with massage therapists who use it to treat people with arthritis.

Because of its painkilling effect, antioxident levels, and ability to reach deep into the skin, emu oil cn be applied to small wounds, cuts, bruises, or burns.

Emu oil contains substances called terpenes which bugs abolutely hate, so applying the oil to your skin before going outdoors can actually help to keep insects at bay.
